Yeovil's digital Christmas light switch on and lantern parade

| Your Area South

We are very pleased to announce that Yeovil will be switching on its Christmas Lights and lighting up the town centre Christmas Tree this year at the end of November and streaming the traditional switch on digitally via the Love Yeovil social media pages.

Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions the traditional event for switching on the Christmas Lights and the Lantern Parade is not able to take place, however, the switching on of the Christmas Lights and a digital lantern parade will be streamed on Thursday 3rd December at 6pm.

Free Lantern Kits

Love Yeovil are going to be hosting a digital lantern parade and like in past years, there will be a competition and a prize for the top 3 lanterns as judged by the Mayor.

Yeovil Town Council has generously sponsored 100 free lantern kits for families to collect from The Quedam Shopping Centre on Wednesday 4th November, just before lockdown starts.

Kits will be handed out on a first come first serve basis. They will be handed out from 10am at the car park tunnel, outside the New Look store.

We encourage those who collect a lantern kit to enter Yeovil's Digital Lantern Parade, find out more below.

Find a video tutorial and more information on the Love Yeovil website.

For the best results please take your picture or video in landscape and with the lantern lit up in the dark. Why not film or picture your lantern as you parade it in your garden or down your street. Traditionally the Switch-on event marks the start of the late-night shopping in Yeovil town centre and this year is no different. So, join us in watching the Christmas light switch on live stream on Thursday 3rd December at 6pm. This will take place along with late night shopping in Yeovil which will take place every Thursday until Christmas.
