Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership launch their Jump Start Programme in South Somerset
We strongly believe in the importance and value of sport and physical activity and how it has the potential to transform lives. Not only can it empower communities as a whole, it can give individuals the life skills, aspirations and experiences they need to nurture stronger self-esteem. SASP Jump Start Programme, that already operates in Taunton, Bridgwater and Highbridge, supports vulnerable young people aged 8-18 years old in Somerset, offering them an opportunity to engage in positive experiences using sport and physical activity, either through Jump Start Clubs, 1:1 Sports Mentor Programme or their Leadership Programme.
SASP Jump Start Clubs provide young people with weekly activity sessions, in a supported environment where they feel safe and valued and have a voice - the young people are able to shape how the club is run, better understand the impacts of their behaviours and feel included. The sessions are an important positive opportunity for building life skills that allow them to better cope with daily life challenges. There is also an opportunity through this clubs for young people who are 14+ to access their leadership programme and gain a recognised qualification. The 1:1 Sports Mentor programme offers 1:1 support with young people who have an interest in being active and playing sports with an aim of supporting them into a community sports club in their area.
Weekly Jump Starts Clubs are currently happening on a Tuesday at Mudford Recreation Centre Astroturf in Yeovil and Henson Park in Chard. If you know a young person in the South Somerset area who would benefit from this programme then please get in touch with Luke Jackson on firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you would like more information about the 1:1 Sports Mentor or Leadership Programme and how you can nominate a young person then please contact Laura Dyke on email@example.com or 01823 653990.
