Severe Weather Emergency Protocol in place to support those in need
South Somerset District Council is activating its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol from today (November 26) for three nights in response to weather warnings for high winds and freezing temperatures.
In line with other areas nationally, South Somerset has an arrangement so that it can provide somewhere indoors for people who are homeless when the temperature is forecast to be zero or below, or when extreme weather is forecast.
Bed spaces will be available through the SWEP’s Winter Provision, as well as additional services including hot food and other provisions.
This is in additional to our work which continues all year round to ensure that anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness has a safe space to stay.
Members of the public with concerns for individuals they believe to be sleeping rough are encouraged to report their sightings via streetlink.org.uk.
