SSDC flying the flag for Armed Forces Day
South Somerset District Council is supporting Armed Forces Day by flying a flag at its head office in Yeovil from the 21st until the 26th June.
It is an opportunity for the Council to celebrate the many men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from those currently serving, to Service families, veterans and cadets.
The day itself (26th June) will be celebrated virtually and there are many ways for people, communities and organisations to show their support. Visit the Armed Forces Day website for ideas on how you can get involved: www.armedforcesday.org.uk/get-involved/
Cllr Andy Kendall is SSDC's Armed Forces Champion. The purpose of the role is to represent veterans and current servicemen and women, and ensure that they and their families are treated fairly. The Champion also provides a point of contact between the Council and various charities.
Cllr Kendall said: "I’m extremely happy to be celebrating the work of the armed forces and their families. It is particularly important in our area when we have such a strong connection with RNAS Yeovilton and the Fleet Air Arm Museum on our doorstep. It is only right that we show our support for those associated with the armed forces.”
