Highways England announces work will start on A303 upgrade in September
Highways England is planning to upgrade a three-mile section of the A303 between Sparkford and Ilchester, to make the road safer and more reliable. The delivery of this scheme is part of a long term aim to create a high-quality dual carriage way link between London and the South East and the South West.

Start of work - virtual exhibition
We’ll be starting work in September 2021. Before then you may see some of our team out and about preparing the site for construction.
On Thursday 22 July at 10:00 we will be launching our virtual public information exhibition. You will be able to find out more about the scheme, including our construction timeline and how we will manage traffic and work alongside nature. We will update the exhibition regularly for the entirety of the scheme, giving you the opportunity to follow our progress.
As part of the exhibition, on Thursday 22 July and Friday 23 July from midday until 8pm, members of our team will be available to answer questions through a live ‘chat room’.
We’ll provide a link on Thursday 22 July which will then take you through to the exhibition.
For now here is a map of the construction phases and timeline.
