Leisure centres in Yeovil and Wincanton have reopened
Freedom Leisure and South Somerset District Council are delighted to reopen Goldenstones Leisure Centre, Westlands Sport and Fitness Centre and Wincanton Sports Centre on Monday 12 April.
The three centres, operated by Freedom Leisure in partnership with South Somerset District Council, have reopened their doors once again after the third, and hopefully last, lockdown.
Freedom Leisure took over the management of the leisure facilities in Yeovil and Wincanton on behalf of South Somerset District Council on 1 April. Freedom Leisure will also be operating the superb new facilities currently being built in Chard as part of the Chard Regeneration programme.
Upon reopening, most activities at the three centres are available including gym, swimming and racket sports; whilst children’s swimming lessons will recommence on 19 April. As per the government guidelines, indoor group exercise classes will not be available straightaway but they should recommence in May. Both outdoor and online classes have been made available in the meantime.
Nicola Hix, South Somerset District Council’s Director of Support Services and Strategy said: “It is tremendously exciting to see these sites safely reopened and to be able to begin to offer leisure activities to our residents.
“We are really looking forward to working with Freedom Leisure to deliver a range of activities across South Somerset and provide even more for our communities from our facilities in Yeovil and Wincanton alongside the hugely exciting new centre which is currently being built in Chard.
“We are committed to offering the best possible leisure facilities in South Somerset and we know that Freedom Leisure’s values match our own.”
Ivan Horsfall Turner, Managing Director at Freedom Leisure, said: “We are pleased to see everyone using their local leisure centres again, and the teams are excited to be back providing our local communities with opportunities for exercise, activity and the chance to socialise safely.
