Recruitment begins as Chard Leisure Centre set for late 2021 opening!

| Your Area West

Following some excellent progress on the construction of the new Chard Leisure Centre, the facility is on track to open in late 2021.

The new centre, located on the Boden Mill site, is being built as part of the Chard Regeneration programme and will boast a five lane swimming pool, learner pool, café, soft play area, a gym and studios.

The centre will be operated by Freedom Leisure - one of the most successful and growing not for profit leisure and cultural trusts in the UK - on behalf of South Somerset District Council.

Freedom Leisure, who recently commenced a 15 year partnership with South Somerset District Council, also manage the facilities at Goldenstones Leisure Centre and Westlands Sports and Fitness Centre in Yeovil, as well as Wincanton Sports Centre.

With only a few months to go until the planned opening of the new Chard Leisure Centre, an exciting recruitment campaign is underway to find some outstanding individuals who will play a crucial role in the opening of the new centre and providing excellent customer service to the residents of Chard on each and every visit to this fabulous new leisure centre.

If you feel driven to inspire people to have fun, be more active and improve their wellbeing - and would like a job that will make a real difference to local people’s lives, then Freedom Leisure is the place for you! There will be opportunities for individuals to join the operational, fitness, catering, events and front of house teams, as well as various management positions within the centre. Freedom Leisure is also looking to recruit swimming teachers and lifeguards with excellent training opportunities available in these roles.

Councillor Mike Best, South Somerset District Council’s portfolio holder for Health & Well-Being, said: “The opening of the Chard Leisure Centre demonstrates the Council’s commitment to provide communities with access to exceptional leisure activities and residents of Chard, plus the surrounding area will soon have access to the newest leisure facility in South Somerset. Not only have we provided somewhere people can come and enjoy, but we will also provide new jobs in the local area, and I am delighted to see roles at the centre being advertised ready for the opening.”

Councillor Jason Baker, South Somerset District Council’s portfolio holder for Chard Regeneration, added: “The Chard Leisure Centre has been a highlight project of the Chard Regeneration programme and I am pleased to see it edging closer to an opening date later this year which we will confirm in the coming weeks. When we started the programme, we asked what the public wanted and I am delighted to see the delivery of the leisure centre which will help to strengthen the community and make the town increasingly self-sufficient with all the services, facilities and events necessary to make it a great place to live.”

Ivan Horsfall Turner, Managing Director of Freedom Leisure, said: “We are so pleased to see the progress being made with the construction of Chard Leisure Centre. The Freedom Leisure team are excited to be planning the opening of the centre and are looking forward to welcoming the Chard community to this fantastic new facility. Being active is a key factor in maintaining our physical and mental health, and Chard Leisure Centre will offer lots of opportunities all under one roof.”
