War Memorials

War memorials feature in a high number of local towns and villages and there may be 100,000 nationally. They may be elaborate, free-standing structures with sculpture or sometimes just a simple plaque. The majority  these days are protected by listing and are carefully maintained by their local communities. They are a significant part of the local heritage.

The War Memorials Trust works to protect and conserve all war memorials within the UK. Information on the work of the trust, grant aid schemes available etc are found at www.warmemorials.org
