Our Countywide Housing Strategy Framework document

Somerset Strategic Housing Framework

Providing the right type of housing whilst providing the right health solutions and supporting the local economy are the themes of the Somerset Strategic Housing Framework 2013-2016. The Framework focuses on 3 priorities to:

  • Increase the supply of affordable housing to support economic growth and development
  • Make best use of the sub-region's existing housing stock
  • Meet the housing and accommodation related support needs of the sub-region's most vulnerable and least resilient residents

The Framework is now in need of review, and we have commenced a Countywide consultation (July 12th to September 30th 2017).

Each Somerset district and the County Council have produced housing market profiles that highlight key issues, achievements, opportunities and challenges:

South Somerset Profile

Somerset Countrywide Profile

(Profiles for West Somerset, Mendip, Sedgemoor and Taunton Deane are also available, as well as a more detailed 'benchmarking report' that provides additional housing related statistics)

Strategic Housing Framework Conference

A very successful and well attended Strategic Housing Framework conference took place at Taunton Rugby Club on the 12th of July, with over 100 hundred delegates attending.

There were 7 key note speakers and the conference was chaired by Nick Horne Chief Executive of Knightstone Housing Association.  The presentations for each speaker are available below and provide useful additional information concerning the pressures and challenges faced by the local housing market:-
