What categories of personal information do we collect?

  • Data revealing racial or ethnic origin
  • Religious or philosophical beliefs
  • Sex life data
  • Sexual orientation data
  • Gender reassignment data
  • Health data (where applicable)
  • Basic personal identifiers, e.g. name, contact details
  • Official documents e.g. driving licences, bank details
  • Criminal convictions and offences (where applicable)

Why do we need your personal information?

Some of the personal information you provide will be used for the purpose of assessing your application for your eligibility and suitability for the role for which you are applying. However, the information you provide under our equalities section will be used for monitoring purposes and will not be used as part of the selection process.

How the law allows us to use your personal information

Our legal basis for using your personal data is contract including taking steps to enter into a contract.

Our legal basis for using your sensitive personal data is under employment law, substantial public interest and explicit consent.

Who do we share your information with?

We will share your information with the Recruiting Managers where required to enable shortlisting and an assessment process. Please be advised that any equality and diversity data collected will not be shared with the Recruiting Manager, unless reasonable adjustments are required as part of the application and selection process.

How long do we keep your personal information?

If you are successful in our recruitment process and offered a role at SSDC we will retain the data provided until you cease employment.

If you are unsuccessful in our recruitment process we will retain the data provided for 6 months so that we can assess your suitability for any roles which become available within those six months. If you do not wish for us to retain your information for this purpose then you have the right to ask for this information to be deleted.Please contact people@southsomerset.gov.uk if you wish for this information to be deleted in advance of our 6 month retention period.
