Gaming machine permits and notifications

Under the Gambling Act 2005, if you wish to offer more than 2 gaming machines on your premises, you must first get a permit from us.

A gaming machine is also known as a fruit or slot machine.

If you intend to have 2 or less gaming machines available on your premises, you will need to notify us.

The same application form can be used for new permit, a conversion, variation or transfer of an existing permit or to notify us of 2 or less gaming machines at your premises.

For more information, view our statement of principles and visit the Gambling Commission.

  1. Transfer of gaming machine permit

If there is a notification of 2 or less gaming machines in place at the premises, it will lapse as soon as the premises licence has been transferred to you. Therefore, a new notification must be submitted by the new holder of the premises licence before the gaming machines(s) can be used at the premises.

If there is a gaming machine permit for the premises, the new holder of the premises licence will need to make an application to transfer the permit to them before the gaming machines can be used at the premises.
