Skin piercing registration
You will need to register yourself and your business premises if you intend to carry out the following:
- Tattooing
- Cosmetic Piercing (including ear piercing)
- Semi-permanent skin colouring (including semi-permanent make-up)
- Acupuncture
- Electrolysis
This is set out in the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.
Local byelaws regarding hygiene apply and so your premises will be inspected by one of our team.
Tacit consent does not apply as it is in the public interest that we process your application before it can be granted.

How do I register?
The application fee for each application form is £125.
Registrations are only for the address of premises or person specified in the application form, they cannot be transferred to another building or person.
Applicants who have been convicted under part V111 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 will not be registered unless consent has been given by the Magistrates’ Court which convicted them.

You should allow a minimum of 30 days for your application to be processed.
