Taxis and private hire vehicles

Report an issue with a taxi

Unfortunately, from time to time, the behaviour of a taxi driver or operator may fall below the high standards we expect of them.

Issues we can help you with:

  • Overcharging for a journey
  • Smoking in a vehicle
  • Parking in a disabled bay
  • Private hire vehicle parked in a taxi rank
  • Condition of a vehicle
  • Driver not wearing their ID badge
  • No plates on a licensed vehicle
  • Driver was late or didn’t turn up
  • Driver was rude or abusive
  • Operator was rude or abusive
  • Taxi booked through an operator didn’t arrive
  • Misquote of a fee
  • Lost property

How do I report an issue?

Contact us and let us know about your issue or lost property.

Lost property:

If you have left something in a taxi and you pre-booked your journey, we recommend that you contact the operator you booked with. This way you can arrange to collect the item if found.

If the item you have lost is valuable, such as a phone, laptop, jewellery, wallet or official documents, the taxi driver must take these to a police station within 48 hours of finding.

Contact Avon and Somerset Constabulary to report an item of lost property, or to check whether an item has been handed in, using the non-emergency telephone number, 101.

Issues that need to be escalated further:

  • Speeding drivers
  • Use of mobile devices
  • Drivers cutting up other road users
  • Parking on the road
  • Dangerous driving
  • Assault

You will need to direct these complaints to the relevant authority, i.e. the Police.

Thank you. You response is appreciated.
