Information about the Chief Executive
Alex Parmley was confirmed as South Somerset District Council's new Chief Executive in August 2016 and started his role in October that year after spending time in a previous role as Corporate Director at Eastleigh Borough Council where he led a major business transformation programme.
Alex has over twenty years' experience in local government starting with leisure and tourism management then moving in to regeneration, managing multi-million pound partnership schemes to support business development, inward investment, community development, youth, housing and environmental improvements. From there he moved into community and corporate planning, strategic partnership development and organisational improvement.
His experience in both Modernising Local Government and rising to the financial challenge that Government has imposed on all Councils will help Alex to head up SSDC, who are committed to cutting costs without cutting any of the services that the public both need and value.
Prior to working at Eastleigh, Alex was a Director and General Manager at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and also worked at Parramatta City Council, Australia, leading the implementation of their City Strategy.
Alex has a range of professional qualifications including an MSc in Local Economic Development, BA (Hons) in Politics and History with Statistics, Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.
