Apply for work experience

The council delivers a wide range of services to South Somerset, meaning we can offer a large variety of work placements and work experience opportunities.

  1. Can I apply for work experience or a work placement?

We have opportunities for school students, school leavers and students in higher or further education.

  2. What will I gain from work experience or a work placement?

Our work experience programme is designed to give you the chance to find out more about who we are, the type of work we do and how you can become involved. You will develop new skills, gain new knowledge and get some ‘hands-on’ practical experience. We hope that it will also help you decide on your future career path.

  3. What does work experience or a work placement involve?

Your time at South Somerset will include a mix of work shadowing and practical experience. What activities you do will depend of the service area you are placed with.

  4. How long does work experience or a placement last?

Typically, work experience will last 2 weeks. This may vary slightly depending on where you are placed and when.

Work placement times will depend on your college or university course, the service area you are placed with and your own availability. Let us know your preferred placement dates when you apply.

  5. How do I apply for work experience or a work placement?
